The Katsina State Government has issued a fresh directive aimed at curbing the growing practice of indiscriminate and unauthorised covering of vehicle number plates by government officials and private individuals across the state. Authorities warn that the trend poses serious security risks and could be exploited by criminal elements.

In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on 10 December 2025, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda instructed the Katsina State Police Command and relevant road traffic agencies to intensify enforcement and clamp down on violators.

According to the statement, the governor’s directive follows a noticeable increase in number-plate violations that threaten public safety. Officials say the action is part of broader efforts to safeguard the state from unlawful activities facilitated by untraceable vehicles.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, cautioned members of the public to desist from covering or tampering with vehicle registration plates, noting that offenders risk arrest and prosecution.

The release, signed on behalf of the SSG by Director of Press Ibrahim Almu Gafai, reiterates the administration’s commitment to strengthening security measures and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
